Life Legacy


LTC (Ret) Robert Leroy Westholm, age 91, passed away on Thursday, October 18, 2012 in Garden Ridge, TX. He was born on June 20, 1921 in High River, Alberta, Canada to parents, Ralph and Eva Westholm. ‘Wes’ migrated to multiple locations with his parents during the Great Depression and subsequently graduated from high school in Long Beach, CA in 1940. He married Irene J. Wall of Los Angeles, CA on May 3, 1942. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in multiple key positions in service of his country during WWII. Following enlisted service, he was selected to become an officer and attended OCS at Aberdeen, MD, where he was commissioned as an Ordinance Officer. He was also a decorated Korean War veteran. Following 26 years of military service, Wes retired in 1966 and still remained in service to his country as an Army Civil Servant until 1983. He remained active in the community with his church and mentoring others. An avid golfer, Wes enjoyed his group of Retired Old Men Eating Out “Romeo’s”, every Saturday morning at Jim’s Coffee shop on Broadway. Wes is survived by his wife of 70 years, Irene (Wall) Westholm; daughter, Evelyn Scott and husband, Don; son, COL (Ret.) Robert L. Westholm, Jr. and wife, Prudence; grandchildren, Sara Marrow and husband, Jack, Robert Cochran and wife, Ashley, Andrew Westholm; step-grandchildren, Andrew Scott and wife, Sherry, Craig Scott and wife, Stephanie; great-grandchildren, Caroline, Liam and Lilah Cochran, Jacob Marrow, Charlie, Preston, Cody and Savannah Grace Scott. A special thanks to Juan and Maria Lopez and staff at Garden Ridge Assisted Living and the Administrators and Staff at The Forum at Lincoln Heights for the care they provided.
