TERESA D. REILEY
4/16/23—6/16/12
Teresa D. Reiley, until recently from San Antonio, died June 16, in Shady Valley, TN, where she had been living with her son, Dr. James Reiley and daughter-in-law Dr. Vicky Crouse. She is also survived by her daughter, Dr. Elizabeth Reiley and husband Dr. Terry Hensle, son Dr. Timothy Reiley and his wife Nan Reiley, and son Dr. Mark Reiley and his wife Muriel Reiley. Teresa was also the grandmother of six grandchildren and two step-grandchildren and great-grandmother of four.
She was born to Preston and Teresa Dowell in Ravenswood, WV, where she grew up. She attended and graduated from U. West Virginia, where she met her lifelong husband, Earle Reiley. She pursued graduate studies at Penn. State U., then was married shortly before the end of WWII, in a Marine Corps service. After the war, they moved to Houston, TX, where Earle began working for Shell Oil.
In Houston Teresa was a social worker until she gave birth to her four children. Advancements in Earle’s Shell career led the family to move to NY, IL, CT, TX and CA. During some of these years, Teresa taught school and served as Dean of Girls at a school in Alton, IL. During all these years, Teresa was quite active in church activities and maintained her affiliations with Kappa Kappa Gamma and AAUW. New career opportunities took Teresa and Earle to Kuwait for several years, followed by Sardinia, Milan and finally to England for 10 years, where Earle was a Director of Burmah Castrol. Upon their retirement in 1987, they moved to San Antonio.
Teresa was an active lay person at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, as Altar Guild Directress and Chairman of the St. Ann Guild’s altar kneeler project, and served as a docent at the McNay Art Museum for many years. Teresa was also an accomplished painter, having captured her travels and life in roughly 100 canvasses.
A memorial service will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church on September 21, 2012 at 10:00 a.m., followed by a reception.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts should be sent to St. Lukes’s Episcopal Church or McNay Art Museum.
