Life Legacy


Chief Arthur Lloyd Herrera, Sr. passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at the age of 92. His family originated from the Canary Islands and later founded and settled in San Antonio in the 1700’s. Arthur graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School.

He was a District Fire Chief, serving in The San Antonio Fire Department for 43 years. He was on the Board of Directors for San Antonio Federal Credit Union for 25 years.

He was preceded in death by mother, Stella; father, Ernest; brothers, Ernest Herrera and Roger Herrera; sister, Lydia Hodges; daughter-in-law, Beverly Herrera and sister-in-law, Charlene Steinman, brother-in-law, Jay Steinman. Arthur is survived by his wife of 73 years, Mary Viola Herrera; sons, Lloyd Herrera, Jr. and Douglas Herrera; grandchildren, Brian Herrera, Lisa Herrera Balli and Ellisse Herrera; great-grandchildren, Allison Balli, Sabrina Balli and Stephen Balli; great-great-grandchildren, Kyleigh Balli. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 28, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Porter Loring on McCullough.
