In Loving Memory of Lloyd A. Miller

Life Legacy

Lloyd A. “Pappy” Miller, age 77, passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2012 in San Antonio after a fierce struggle with Alzheimer’s. He was born June 21, 1934 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Walter and Willie Miller.

He was studying at Oklahoma A. & M. when he joined the Air Force where he served 3 years with some of that time spent in England. Returning to the States, he met the love of his life Betty Jo Storie.

They were married 55 years ago. Together they moved to Austin where he studied electrical engineering at UT and where they started their family.

Mark S. Miller was born there in 1961. They then moved to Richardson, Texas, where he worked as an electrical tech and where Gregg R. Miller was born in 1963.

In 1975 the entire family moved to South Africa for a year for Lloyd’s work. Upon their return to Texas, Lloyd obtained one of the earliest Irrigator’s Licenses issued by the State, and in 1976 started L.A. Miller Lawn Sprinklers in Richardson, Texas which he owned and operated until his retirement in 2000.

In his spare time Lloyd enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting and spending time at “the farm” with his sons and nephew Steve, his twin brother Floyd and younger brother Bruce. After his retirement, he and Betty Jo fulfilled a dream they had by traveling extensively in their fifth wheel travel trailer, seeing much of the American West.

He was a man of God and was active in the Baptist church where he was a deacon and even occasionally sang in the choir.

Lloyd is survived by his devoted wife, Betty Jo Miller; sons, Mark Miller and wife, Diana, Gregg Miller and wife Catherine; 6 grandchildren, Amanda, Andrew, Geoffrey, Ian, Alyssa and Preston; and 3 brothers, Walter Miller and wife Norma, Floyd Miller and wife Tommie, and Bruce Miller and numerous nieces and nephews.
