Zulema “Sue” G. Thurman, age 90, passed away on Monday, December 26, 2011 in San Antonio, Texas. She was born December 13, 1921 in San Isidro, Texas to Eliseo and Crisanta Guerra.
She attended San Isidro High School and went on to become a bookkeeper and office manager for many years with Van Burkleo Motors in McAllen, Texas. She was also an administrator for J.E.T. Ranch.
A talented artist, Sue loved to paint scenery. Sue was a very giving person, taking in and raising a foster daughter and helping any family members when necessary.
She was married to Arturo Sarabia only nine months when he passed away. She married James E. Thurman Jr. and they spent all their time in McAllen until she retired. Together they went to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, where she was very active in Barcelona Road Baptist Church and where she and her husband taught English as a second language.
She was preceded in death by, her first husband, Arturo Sarabia, her second husband, James E. Thurman Jr., and step-son, James E. Thurman III.
Sue is survived by her siblings, Luciano E. Guerra, Ramiro R. Guerra, Noe C. Guerra, Teresa G. Saenz, Oralia G. Santos, Viola G. Sunderland; step-grandchildren, James E. Thurman IV, Sasha C. Thurman; and foster daughter, Linda K. Gartman.
