Life Legacy

HINCHEY
Kathryn was born July 1, 1920 to Woolford Spaulding Cross and Mary Kathryn Keesler Cross in Jacksonville, Florida. She grew up in Perry, Florida, graduated from Florida State University and taught school.

She met the love of her life, John J. Hinchey on a family visit to the Mayo Clinic where he was an orthopedic fellow. They were married August 10, 1944 and began their lives together as he served in the U.S. Navy. After the war, they established their lives in San Antonio and quickly became a part of its growing community.

Kathryn centered her life on her Lord, her marriage and her family. She travelled throughout Texas and the country as John’s career progressed. She was always present for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as a loving guide. She participated with them through PTA, ballet classes, ball games, college trips, graduations and weddings. Any person who crossed her path became her friend, and she deeply cared about them.

Kathryn was a member of the Altar Guild, various PTA’s, St. Monica’s Guild, The Battle of Flowers Association, The Argyle and the San Antonio Country Club.

She was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Ann Blanche Price; her husband, John J. Hinchey, M.D.; and her granddaughter, Heather Herrick Todd.

She is survived by her children: Mary Kathryn and Lawrence Whaley, Ida and Clarence Scott, Bill and Joann Hinchey and Margaret and Bill Mitchell; Grandchildren: Andrew and Susan Whaley, Kacie Herrick, John and Christy Hinchey, George Hinchey, Carolyn and Robert Shaw, Erin and Brandon Clemenson, Will Mitchell and his fiancé Melissa Bauer, Matt Mitchell and Brian Mitchell; Great-grandchildren: Lauren Whaley, Blake Whaley, Kyle Whaley, Caitlyn Wicker, Kevin Herrick and Madison Todd. She also has a host of nieces and nephews.

The family extends many thanks to Lucy Golaszewski and Amparo Herrera for the loving care and kindness to Kathryn.
