Life Legacy


Martha Hightower Campbell Miss Martha, passed away Friday, October 23, 2009 in Boerne, just before her 95th birthday. She grew up in Athens, Alabama, attended Athens College and graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1935. She came to San Antonio in 1942, worked at Ft. Sam Houston, where she met Miller Campbell. They married and shared 25 years together.

Martha taught the first grade at Ben Franklin Elementary School. She was a member of Jefferson Methodist Church for 7 decades, and helped create Jefferson Methodist's Lunch Bunch program. She was a lifelong member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Gamma Phi Beta Sororities. She worked to improve the Jefferson and Woodlawn Lake neighborhoods and supported the Jefferson Neighborhood co-op.

She is survived by her daughter, Marti Campbell, son, Arch Miller Campbell, his wife, Reverend Gina Campbell all of Chevy Chase, Maryland and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Morningside Ministries, Vitas Hospice, Dr. Marvin Mozkowitz and Martha's devoted caregivers, especially Oralia Cruz and Imelda Goldi Garcia.
