Life Legacy

BARBERIO

Mary Louise Cadena Barberio passed away on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at the age of 82. She was a lifelong resident of San Antonio. She was a proud descendent of San Antonio's first settlers from the Canary Islands and was equally proud of her Italian lineage, where her family was one of the founding families of San Francesco De Paola Italian Church. She is predeceased by her husband, Frank F. Barberio, Jr., parents, Frank and Theresa Todesco Cadena, brothers, George R. and James O. Cadena and sister, Olga T. Cadena Lione New Jersey. She is survived by her daughter, Diane Marie Naukam of San Antonio and daughter and son-in-law Theresa Louise and Randy D. Roberts of Dallas, her grandchildren, Jared Austin and Jenna Marie Roberts and two first cousins, Mrs. Connie George Casseb and Mrs. Norma Jean Cadena Wilke. She was blessed with many special nieces, nephews and cousins. She especially enjoyed visiting her family in New Jersey and with those who became like family to her. Mary Louise retired from the University of Texas Health Science Center where she worked at the Library's Circulation Desk for over twenty years. She then began another career with the San Antonio Visitor's Bureau. As an active member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, she enjoyed the company of her many friends from the Senior Center. She was a talented cook and passed on those talents to her daughters and grandchildren. An event she always looked forward to was rolling meatballs for the spaghetti dinners at the Italian Church. It was the camaraderie of the ladies there, the laughter, and knowing she had had a hand in making great meatballs that brought her joy. Bunco was another favorite past time of hers. She played with many different bunco groups throughout her life and made new and treasured friends along the way. Her family would like to thank Dr. Larry Davis, Dr. Suneetha Challagundla and the staff of Cancer Care Centers of South Texas, the many attending nurses at Methodist Hospital and the "Angels on Earth" at Vitas Hospice for their extraordinary care.
