A World War II veteran who served in the European theater with General Dwight Eisenhower's Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force SHAEF, Lee Ullmann passed away on Friday, April 24, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 85.

LeeRoy David Ullmann was born in Shiner, Texas, on January 25, 1924, one of five children of a first-generation American immigrant farmer from Germany and his wife. During World War II Lee served in the U.S. Army in Europe, and upon his discharge worked in the Netherlands for a brief time. When he returned to the United States he settled in San Antonio, Texas, where he joined the U.S. Air Force Reserve in 1949. In 1950 he married Betty Ruth Grisham, also of San Antonio. The following year he was called to active duty and stationed briefly in Japan.

After his second discharge in 1952, Mr. Ullmann, an accountant, went to work for a wholesale floral distributor, with whom he remained for most of his career. He and Betty had two children, Michael and Patricia, and Lee was active in church, the Boy Scouts and the YMCA Indian Guides. Lee and Betty were divorced in 1977, and in 1991 Lee married Delma Reeh of San Antonio.

Mr. Ullmann was preceded in death by his parents Anton and Lillie; his brother Lester; his sisters Lydia Kouba and Erna Brosch, and his second wife Delma Ullmann. He is survived by his first wife Betty; son Michael and daughter Patricia; sister Irene Hagendorf; stepson Robert Reeh; and stepdaughter Joyce Spengler.

Mr. Ullmann enjoyed plants, collecting, birdwatching, and American history, and took an avid interest in family genealogy. He was a proud citizen and a proud veteran, and will be buried with military honors at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, TX.
