Life Legacy



David Wayne Hampton went to be with his Lord on August 2, 2013 surrounded by his family after 65 wonderful years of life. Wayne was born on May 25, 1948 in San Antonio, TX to Marshall and Elizabeth Hampton. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School and was a drum major and cheerleader at the University of Texas at Arlington while completing his degree in Government in 1970. He went on to graduate from St. Mary’s Law School in 1974. Wayne spent 10 years working at the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office before entering private practice for the remainder of his career. He was well-known in the State and Federal courthouses and played on the Hippos softball team for over 20 years. He was actively involved in numerous community and church activities throughout his life. He was an avid supporter of the Winston Churchill High School Marching Band and Color Guard, took hundreds of Coker youth on mission trips, and volunteered for many school and community organizations. He was often recognized as an outstanding volunteer, leading work hour and fundraising efforts. Wayne was a devoted husband, doting father, and dedicated friend and colleague. He always led by example, putting in endless hours at church, at his children’s numerous activities, and caring for the people around him. He spent his weekends relaxing on Lake Marble Falls and loved entertaining friends and family. His love for life was clear in all his actions and he could always bring a smile to your face. He was preceded in death by his parents. Wayne is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 44 years, Mickey Hampton; daughter, Mandy and son-in-law, Kraig Wray; daughter, Heather and son-in-law, Greg Williams; as well as grandchildren, McCoy and Madeline.
