Some of my most favorite childhood memories are the times spent with Lois A. at her little apartment in Dupont Circle. My sister and I would play with her white mice, read her Peanuts comic strip books, and have hot chocolate with mini marshmallows before going to bed. For birthdays, we were allowed to chose our favorite restaurant; I always liked to go to the Officers'Club. Lois A. was a big influence in my life and in my career as a nurse. She was the first nurse I ever knew to achieve a PhD. She was one of the most amazing people I've ever known and will be sorely missed.

I did not know Col. Johns but just wanted to thank her for her service to our country. May God Bless her and her loved ones.

Lois was a wonderful president of our neighborhood home owners association some years back. I recall her telling us on the board to quiet down at times, or she'd use her colonel voice! She had a wonderful sense of humor, & her military sense of organization was a benefit to all.

I was stationed at 3rd Field Hospital In Saigon with Col. Johns. I was evident she cared deeply for our service men as well as the civilians who were our patients. Her sense of humor often helped relieve a stressful situation. I also saw her several times when she was hospitalized at a local hospital where I work and was always greeted with a hug. She was a special person who will be greatly missed and I feel blessed to have had her touch my life.

Lois was a talented, giving and very special nurse who contributed greatly during her illustrious career. Our profession needs more like her. Ruth Stewart RN

Colonel Johns' support, mentoring and friendship were important elements during my active duty tenure and continuing professional nursing career. My husband, Odis and our children offer sincere condolences to Marilyn.
